One of the best features is that you can just send your troops home (via the fief menu) when you don't need them and completely avoid having to pay upkeep.
It's a little harder on non-affliated characters, since they can only recruit mercenaries from towns.but on the other hand, mercenaries start with decent gear and training (and are cheaper for non-lords (1000 per Lance vs 3000 per Lance for Lords)), while Fief troops start, usually, with lower quality and have to be built up over time (but they retain their quality levels when sent-home, so over time you'll build a huge force of elite lances).Īlso once you build up your manors sufficiently you can call on manor lances as well.Įach Fief can hold a maximum of 14 lances (Lances are 8-10 troops each, consisting of the lesser nobility and their levy).
It takes some getting used to, coming from other systems, but it's awesome once you realize all the benefits it brings.
